Location: The project has -as its main stage- Omaida Scott Alfaro’s house, located in “Carambola” Mountain Community; belonging to the Pre-mountain Popular Council in Candelaria municipality, Artemisa province. It limits to the north with "Hoteles Horizonte Soroa" Tourist Center; to the south with “Fria” Community"; to the west with “Las Minas” Mountain Community; and to the east with "La Flora". All these rural communities are located in the buffer zone of Sierra del Rosario Biosphere Reserve.
The project has -as background- the sociocultural promotion work, carried out in the mountain communities of difficult access, in Candelaria municipality, in which Omaida’s pilgrimage has played a leading role; based on the rescue and preservation of traditions and customs that characterize peasant families in the area.
General objective:
Contribute to the sociocultural development of ”Carambola” Community, and other mountainous communities of difficult access; starting with the rescue and promotion of peasant traditions.
Specific objectives:
• Promote the different sociocultural spaces that take place in “Patio de Mayi”.
• Ensure the development of the different artistic manifestations and exhibition spaces, from the material and financial point of view.
• Improve the hygienic-sanitary conditions of the community.
• Promote community interest circles about local history and friends of nature.
• Dynamize the community sociocultural life from the integration of the different actors.
Expected results:
• Strengthened the different sociocultural spaces that take place in “Patio de Mayi”.
• The different sociocultural spaces are assured from the material and financial point of view.
• Increased socio-cultural dynamics of the community, with broad participation of the rural population in the area.
• Greater institutional recognition of the sociocultural work carried out in the community.
• Improved hygiene and sanitary conditions in the community.
• The population acquires more commitment, responsibility and environmental culture.
The development of traditional artistic manifestations, such as: the tenth, traditional popular music, handicrafts, clothing, plastic arts, culinary art -in terms of original methods- that emerged from the time of the Spanish colony, as a result of the transculturation process, and has lasted until today in this part of the Candelarian geography; inspired the project idea: “The Mountain and Me”.
Popular wisdom, socialized at different moments of the development of activities in the courtyard, with the participation of the community and the growing presence of workers and specialists in culture, promote and enrich the spiritual life of the community. •
