Mission of the Museums

MUNICIPAL MUSEUMS.  

Mission: Their mission is to preserve and promote the historical memory of the town, where they are located and, therefore, that of the Nation.   

Functions of museums:    

1. Treasure, guard, conserve, catalog, communicate and display -in an orderly manner- their collections and funds, in accordance with scientific, aesthetic and didactic criteria; 

2. guide and supervise the operation of the museums and subordinate extensions that correspond to it; 

3. keep the inventory system of material, natural, intangible cultural heritage assets updated; and the systematic completion of the scientific record; 

4. coordinate training and development of human resources; 

5. place the funds and collections at the public service, which allows establishing communication with society, through them; 

6. provide advisory and consultative services to societies, institutions or organizations in the field of museology; 

7. Collaborate with the Provincial Registers of Cultural Property of its territory; in the identification, study, inventory and control of heritage and museum assets, held by natural and legal persons; 

8. ensure the protection of monumental and natural heritage; 

9. carry out scientific research on its funds and collections; as well as those concerning the specialties of museology and local identity; carry out actions aimed at increasing the museum's funds and collections; 

10. develop an educational, continuous and systematic work to achieve the interest of the population -and especially of children and young people- in the appreciation, knowledge and protection of cultural heritage assets in its broadest concept; not only referred to locality history; but including its traditions, ethnography, flora and fauna, territory geography and culture in all its manifestations; 

11. prepare catalogs and monographs of its funds and collections, and propose its publication; 

12. keep updating and preserving the documentation indissolubly linked to the museum's collections and funds in its different supports, contents and cultural origin; and 

13. ensure the care and conservation of movable and immovable property; and seek the support and collaboration of local authorities and citizens in general.
