Geographic location: Western region, between 22º29’and 23º05’ north latitude; and 83º25’and 82º28’ west longitude. 

Geographical limits:To the North: Florida Strait.To the South: Gulf of Batabanó.To the East: Havana and Mayabeque Provinces.To the West: Pinar del Río Province. 

Longest river: Los Colorados (Hondo de San Cristóbal).39 km long.110 Km² of area.4 tributaries.South Slope. It is born in “Sierra del Rosario” mountain chain, “Guaniguanico Range”; at 22º49’north latitude and 83°04’ west longitude; at 340 altitude-meters. It ends in the Gulf of Batabanó.Runs north-south direction. 

Highest elevation: Pan de Guajaibón with 692 meters high. 

Physical geography: The relief of plains predominates, standing out the plain of Havana-Matanzas. It includes the westernmost part of South Havana-Matanzas Plain, Mariel Heights and Anafe Tableland.“Sierra del Rosario”mountain chain, belonging to“Guaniguanico Range”(where the highlight of the Province is located) also stands out. Its hydrography is characterized by short rivers with little flow, highlighting “Los Colorados” and “San Juan” rivers.The fersialitic, brown, ferralitic, hydromorphic and humic calcimorphic soils predominate.
