Resolution 200 of 2021 issued by the Ministry of Transportation was published this Tuesday in the Extraordinary Gazette number 63 of the Republic of Cuba. Fifteen days after its publication, the homologation process for unregistered vehicles that have been assembled by parts and pieces will come into effect, in addition to legalizing those to which changes and conversions have been made in previous stages.

In a first survey, the country detected the existence of more than 40 thousand vehicles with similar conditions, hence the need to apply a regulation that would allow them to be homologated, according to the principles of current legislation and to ensure automotive safety.

The Director General of the Automotive Department of the Ministry of Transportation, Mario Pérez Ventura explained that the process will have three stages. The first and second, lasting one month, are focused on the census of those vehicles that have not been registered and on the homologation of vehicles with changes and conversions respectively.

“On October 5, the third stage related to the registration of vehicles assembled by parts and pieces will begin. The provincial commission will participate in this process together with other specialists. Based on the testimony of the owner of the vehicle, in his sworn statement on the origin of the parts and pieces used to assemble the vehicle, the technical review of the vehicle will be carried out ”, the manager said.

They must also present photos of the vehicle and the document that accredits it as its owner. It is worth noting in the particular case of the affidavit, no document will be required to certify the origin of the parts and pieces, however these must be of legal origin.

Pérez Ventura assured that the review process will be carried out in an orderly manner through a call, in which each province will be responsible for organizing the process according to the characteristics of its territory and always respecting the sanitary measures imposed by the pandemic.

“We have to certify, for the only time, that the vehicle made up of parts and pieces has all the road safety requirements that allow it to travel on public roads without setbacks. A document has been prepared that includes all the aspects to be evaluated during the technical review ”, he pointed out.

Those vehicles declared unfit for failing to comply with the requirements established for their legalization will be granted a period of up to six months to correct the errors and re-present themselves. However, those who fail to homologate the vehicle in the agreed period will not be able to present themselves again.

Vehicles that are declared fit will be given the denomination vehicles assembled by parts (VAP) and a number to be entered in the vehicle registry. For your greater security, the final approval of the process will be made from the Ministry of Transportation.
