Guanajay is strengthened by the intervention of BASAL. Environmental Bases for Local Food Sustainability (BASAL). It is a project that aims to contribute to the socio-economic and environmental development of Cuba, by supporting adaptation to climate change at the local and national level, and reducing vulnerabilities in the agricultural sector.

Guanajay municipality has developed -for the first time-a general program for the dissemination of knowledge, good practices and lessons learned from the BASAL project (Guanajay as the main provincial actor). CITMA Director, Orlando Días Darías; Municipal Coordinator of the BASAL project in Güira de Melena, Mireya Acosta; and the head of the CAM in Guanajay, among other heads of the municipality Agriculture, were taking part.

Title: 

"Vulnerability reduction to coastal flooding through ecosystem-based adaptations in the southern part in Artemisa and Mayabeque provinces."

Objective: 

Reduce the vulnerability of communities -located in the coastal areas of the provinces Artemisa and Mayabeque in southern Cuba- in the face of phenomena related to climate change (CC), including coastal erosion, floods and saline intrusion.
