Call to Gilberto Caballero Almeida National Prize for Scientific Journalism.

Purpose:
In order to stimulate the search for greater quality and stability -in the mass media-about scientific, technological and environmental information; as well as to recognize the promotional work, carried out on these issues; the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment -in coordination with the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC)- summon to participate this year, 2019; in the XXIII Edition of “Gilberto Caballero” Scientific Journalism Contest; dedicated to science -with regard to the productive forces- for the sustainable development of the country.
Bases:
- • Journalists, communicators, scientists, and university students may participate; those, who in 2019, published works in the national mass media; in the categories of written, radio, television and digital press;concerning scientific, technological and environmental innovation issues of our country.
- • A maximum of 3 works per contestant will be accepted.
- • Each contestant must present the technical sheet and the endorsement from the Director of the press body to which he belongs, or the workplace and -in the case of the provinces- also the endorsement of the Territorial Delegate of CITMA; or Director of the center in said territory, as appropriate.
- • Radio and Television works must be accompanied by the script.
- • None of the jury members may have their works, or those of their relatives’, in competition.
- • The works that compete in more than one modality must bring a file for each of them. In the event that the Radio Press and Television Press modalities coincide; these must come on different CDs.
- • Papers with more than one author, must bring only one form per modality that contains the data of the authors.
- • Work that does not meet these requirements will be canceled from the Contest.
Modalities:
- •NEWSPAPERS:
An original and two copies must be submitted for each work. The award will be recognized with 1000 CUP.
- • RADIAL PRESS:
The works in competition will be delivered on CD or DVD, with their respective scripts. The award will be recognized with 1000 CUP.
- • TELEVISION PRESS:
The works in competition will be delivered on CD or DVD, with their respective scripts. The award will be recognized with 1000 CUP.
.DIGITAL PRESS:
The electronic address of the page, where the work was published, must be well reflected in the file. The award will be recognized with 1000 CUP.
- • AWARD TO THE WORK OF LIFE:
A journalist, communicator, group or media outlet; that has continually excelled, for a period of not less than 20 years; in the promotion and popularization of science, technological innovation and/or care and protection of the environment, will be awarded.They will be proposed by CITMA executives and members of the Circle of Scientific Journalism -both national and provincial- and must submit the following documents for the preparation of a file:
- • Minutes of the assembly, containing the agreement on the choice of the candidate, for the award and the detailed argumentation of the proposal.
- • Endorsement from the management of the press body, which he works for.
- • CITMA guarantee in the case of the provinces.
- • Professional CV of the candidate.
- • Other documents, that support the work performed.
The prize will be recognized with 3000 CUP.
Other Modalities:
In addition to the prizes awarded by the CITMA Central Organ, other institutions and Superior Management Bodies of the Ministry; will award the best works that address their topics, they are:
-Cuban Industrial Property Office.
-National Standardization Office.
-Nuclear Energy Agency and Advanced Technologies.
-Environmental Agency.
-National Museum of Cuba Natural History.
-Havana Bay State Working Group.
Jury.
The works will be evaluated by a jury, made up of prestigious personalities from the sphere of communication, science and the environment; which will be approved by National UPEC and CITMA.
For the Life Work Award, there will be a Commission, made up of all the jury members, and representatives of UPEC and CITMA.
Admission period:
The works will be received until February 14th, 2020, at the Organization, Control, Information and Analysis Directorate; in the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment headquarters. It is located at Number 8, Línea Street, between “N” and “O”, Vedado,Revolution Square, Havana, Cuba.
Awards:
The award will be held in March.
