The facility was inaugurated on August 16th, 1981, as a tribute to the birthday of our Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz. In 1989 the construction of masonry and tile cabins begins and it has continued until today.

 Origin of the name: The name of the beach is taken from “La Altura” farm, which occupied a wide area of ??land and belonged to the pseudo-republican president Carlos Prio Socarras. About 4Km before reaching the facility, there is a small elevation with buildings that is called “La Altura”.

 “La Altura” installation belongs to the OSDE, Popular Camping Enterprise Group, at its foundation with Headquarters in Havana City and currently promoted as a destination for nature, sun and beach lovers belongs to the Artemisa Popular Camping Enterprise.

This facility has 59 rooms, but 10 are out of service due to filtration problems and deterioration in the hydro sanitary system. This accommodation service has a capacity of 4 people per room, with electric fan service. This is a third category facility and offers accommodation, recreation and gastronomy services.

The accommodation: these are masonry cabins with capacity for 4 people and there is a bathroom inside each cabin.

In recreation: There is a game parlor where you can rent different games and you can also buy rustic games. We also have outdoor games, a shooting range, an indoor dance floor (where humorous and participatory activities are carried out and recorded music is enjoyed), horseback ridings, excursions to historical and natural sites existing in the areas surrounding our facility, such as: excursions to the Perico cave, mouth of the ManíManí river, to the house of ex-president PrioSocarras and to the monument to honor NarcizoLópez. In these tours the client gets in contact with the flora and fauna as it is possible to observe different species of birds and species of forest and fruit trees.

In gastronomy: We have a restaurant, cafeteria, shops and barbecue service where different types of dishes and gastronomic offers are provided.

Since its beginning it was inaugurated with 620 capacities in 180 tents near the sea. Due to meteorological phenomena in 1989, it was decided to move the construction of the base separated from the sea, and then, it is built of masonry and roof of tiles in blocks of two-story constructions with 4 rooms.

All the services provided in our facility are offered by qualified personnel for the activity and with extensive experience in these affairs. We must consider that the quality of human resources also constitutes an important bulwark for the installation, which, due to their peasant ancestry, not only transmits quiet and good treatment; but, because of their high value of sense of belonging they do an excellent job in fulfilling the expectations of customers. There you can enjoy a cheerful and responsible workforce, something that is highly appreciated by those who visit us.
For the development and response to our nature and ecotourism market, we have designed different routes and options to meet the expectations of our clients.

Located about 25Km from Bahia Honda municipality, our facility is made up of several buildings: desk, shop, restaurant, service block, game room, grill, medical services, administration offices, parking area, and 59 rooms. Its construction is fundamentally based on the use of a concrete blocks and Cuban tiles in a two-water-roof (a roof high in the sides and low in the middle with a canal to let rain water run).

Geographic location.

The area where the facility is located today was first the farm of the ex-president Carlos PrioSocarras. There he had his rest house and dedicated the land to raising cattle and raising fine roosters. This is a settlement located in an elevation about 4 km before reaching our facility. The workers who took care of the farm lived in this site and their descendants currently live in the same place.

Bird watching:
Although we do not have a bird observatory, we do observe a great diversity of endemic and emigration birds.

Horseback riding:

 It is a totally optional activity for clients; it is guided by area personnel with great experience in working with these animals, and can be carried out by clients with little or no experience in this regard as they are docile animals with several years in this activity. It is developed through flat areas with very few demands for the rider and his animal, he can also appreciate nature and the environment and it can be enjoyed by clients of any age.

Walking tours:

This is the way to go on excursions to different places of historical and natural interest, exposing the client to direct contact with nature.

Modifications and renewal.

A series of modifications have been made to the installation, as well as renovations: the woodwork in the rooms has been changed to aluminum carpentry, the dance floor has been roofed, a warehouse with more capacity has been built, a restaurant has been built, a barbecue was built and a well was dug for the facility.

We are currently in the construction of the perimeter fence of the facility.
